Fran Florez - Mayor of Shafter

Fran:

Fran Florez was born and raised in Bakersfield; attended Bakersfield city schools and is currently a resident of Shafter, California She retired from the banking industry after a 35 year career. Formed the Florez & Florez consulting firm in May 2000. Fran is active in the community, serving as past president of the Shafter Chamber of Commerce and the Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. She was elected to the Shafter City Council in l996 and still serves as a council member and additionally serves as Mayor. She has served as Chairperson of the Shafter Community Development Agency. Fran is active in the community currently serving on the board of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Golden Empire Gleaners, serves as a community board member of San Joaquin Hospital and the Kern County Network for Children. She also serves as Vice Chair of the High Speed Rail Authority, a nine-member board that will oversee the planning, construction and operation of a high-speed rail system for California.

Fran and Ray Florez have two grown children, daughter Kris Miller a childcare site supervisor for the Paso Robles Unified School District and son Dean Florez, Senator for the 16th district. Kris and husband Aaron live in Paso Robles. Dean and wife Elsa their children, son Sean and daughter Faith live in Shafter.

Fran Florez one of the principals of Florez&Florez consulting firm has contracted her services exclusively for the Public Affairs Department of Pacific Gas & Electric Co. She is the contact person in Kern County and functions as a liaison to PG&E’s Community Vitality Program that provides both financial and in-kind support to community based organizations and educational entities in the counties of Fresno, Kern, Kings and San Bernardino.

DDD05Fran: In 2005, The Kern County Democratic Party gave Fran the Walter Stiern Award for outstanding service to the community by an elected official.
